(Anna) Margaretha Grungras Genealogy in Wallenbruck

The Grungras family shows up in the earliest records available from Wallenbruck -- as of 1660. But in the book "Spuren der Geschichte in Wallenbrück und Bardüttingdorf" (Roots of history in Wallenbrueck and Barduettingdorf), Herman Gronegresch was mentioned as living at No. 10 in Wallenbrueck in 1556. Our ancestor-immigrant, Margarethe Grungras married Hermann Dickenhorst in Wallenbruck in 1840 (according to the birth record of their first child); she was 20 and thought to have been born there. It is possible that records from Neuenkirchen might detail her father or mother's name as well, should these be available/microfilmed.

The Wallenbruck church records microfilmed are as follows:

A digitized online index for many of the Westphalia microfilms has made the task of family composition easier. However, without a birth record or marriage record for Margarethe, her ancestory (specifically her parentage) is uncertain. There are at least two potential fathers for her: Peter Heinrich who married Catharine Elisabeth Bruning in 1800 and Hermann Heinrich who married Anna Margarethe Trebbe in 1801. Based on name alone, I have tentatively chosen Hermann Heinrich due to the name of his wife. Note that this is a work in progress and may have omissions or errors beyond those noted here.

Note: In Wallenbruck the name was spelled as Groengrass, Groenegress, Groenegresses, Gruenegress, Gronegraess, Groenegres, Groengraes, Groengroes, Gruenegroess Gruenegress, Gruenegraes with the more common variation being Groenegress

Margaretha's parents (and siblings)

Herman Heinrich Gruenegress, born 1768, married Anne Margarethe Trebbe, born Oct 22, 1775 on December 9, 1801 in Wallenbruck. He was 33 and she was 26; it was his second marriage. He had married Anne Marie Hagerman on November 8, 1796 in Wallenbruck, but they had no children, and she apparently died young. I am guessing that Margarethe is Herman's daughter due to the Anne Margarethe as his wife's name. Since Margarethe married a Herman, the name of her son being Henry Herman is not definitive, but she did name her first daughter Anna Margarethe as well.

Catharine Isabein Ober-Boemer married Ernst Henrich Groengress on Aprl 9, 1760 in Wallenbruck. Note that without a birth or marriage record for Margarethe, her father cannot be ascertained definitively -- it is possible it was Peter Henrich or Johann Heinrich instead of Hermann Heinrich; it is likely to be one of these three, as these were the only Groenegress men having children at this time in Wallenbruck. Obviously, if Margarethe is the daughter of Anne Ilsabein Droege or Marie Louise Bruning, the Trebbe tree then does not belong to Margarethe. However, I believe based on the mother's name, it is most likely that Margarethe is Hermann Heinrich's daughter.

Note: the parents of children listed 4-8 are uncertain -- these five children have no parents listed. The 1757 birth specifies Hartwig Henrich Groenegress and Anna Lisebeth Lippen; my guess is that all of these children belong to Hartwig, and maybe all to Anna Lisebeth Lippen.

Margaretha's great-great-grandparents

Ernst Jurgen Groenegress married Margretha Ellersick on unknown date, but assumed to be ~1690-1693. There was no marriage record found, and the first three children have no mother's name listed. It is assumed that all the children were by Margretha Ellersick, but it is possible there was a first wife who died and just the last chld was by Ellersick. There was an additional marriage record for Ernst Juergen Groenegress marryuing Anna Margretha Frieling on 8/2/1729.

It is assumed that the first child was unnamed since she died at birth.

Margaretha's great-great-great grandparents
Ernst Jurgen Groenegress was born April 19, 1665 in Wallenbruck. No parents were listed on the birth record. However, the only Groenegress having children in 1660-1675 was Hermann Groenegress, so it is assumed that Herman was his father; mother unknown.

In 1679 Johan Jobst Groenegrass married Gretke Hoellenbeck, and they had a son Anthon Jurgen born 1685. In 1684 Severin Gronegaess and Anna Margreth Poelman had a daughter Trine Ilssebin. It is thought that Johan Jobst and Severin may have been older children of Herman's or his younger brothers. The idea of older children is supported by the curious record of Luleff Wibbing marrying Grische Pleitnering in 1665; his father is listed as Herman Groenegresses.
