---------------------
*It is known that George and Hermine had six children (from her answer on the 1900 census), and that two died young, at least by 1900 (and maybe before 1870 since they do not show up on the 1870 census data); it is uncertain who these two were. The most likely place for them in the birth order is the 8-year gap (1861-1867) between Alfred and Lucia. Burial records at NY Bay Cemetery (in NJ) do not specify the names; NY birth and death records are not available for the 1860s. Genealogists have disagreed over who they think these two children are:
I think it is likely the two Stiebeling children buried in the 1860s in NY Bay cemetery are the two Stiebeling-Kreymeyer babies. The cemetery record indicates one 4/26/1866-4/29/1866, and one buried 6/3/1867 (could be any age -- I am guessing age 4/5 years). George and Hermine are the only Stiebelings in NY at this time having children, and burying them in this plot.
However, there was an Emma Stiebeling, listed as a 16-year-old daughter on George Stiebeling's 1880 census, and some genealogists have reasonably assumed that she is one of the children, born ~1864, who died young, before 1900. No birth, marriage, or death record was found for her, she was not included in the family on the 1870 census, and she is not buried at NY Bay cemetery; therefore, I think this "daughter" designation was in error, and she was a nanny instead (perhaps Emma Kohl, George's third wife). Reference the New York Directory for more discussion on this issue.
The Edward Stiebeling born and died in 1872 is also an issue here. Some genealogists believe he may have been the 6th child of Stiebeling-Kreymeyer instead of the child of Stiebeling-Henning. In any case, none of these children lived to adulthood to be married, so the placement in the genealogical tree affects just their single entry.

** There was a William Deckenback born circa 1828 who shows up in NY as a witness to the Kreymeyer-Stiebeling marriage on 5/3/1857 in Jersey City, NJ. It is unknown where he fits into this tree, and it may not be here. Note that Ferdinand Stiebeling (1854 passenger list) and William Deckenbach first live in NY after emigration, according to census data and NY directories:
1853/54 -- (unknown) Deckenbach, Philip, laborer, h w 47th n Tenth Ave

Ferdinand Stiebeling moves to Hoboken by the 1874/75 directory (Stiebeling, Frederick, butcher, h 38 Sixth Hoboken), and Edward Stiebeling shows up in Hoboken as of the 1876/77 directory. Ferdinand dies in Hoboken by 1880; his wife is listed as a widow in the 1881 directory.
