Notes: Catherine died in Gedern, and saw none of her grandchildren. Lorenz' 1890 death record states he is the father of four (Maria, William, Sophia and Elizabeth) and the grandfather of seven (it should be 13: Edward's three: Emma-Theodore-Sophia, Marie's four: Tilly-Gussie-Antonia-Frieda, Riecke's two: George-Paul, Sophie's two: Edwin-Lottie, and Elizabeth's two: Alma-Hermann; plus Elizabeth has a step-son Paul from Charles' first marriage)(Riecke's stepchildren would not be counted as potential grandchildren since they are all nieces/nephews.) Even the children of the four living children would be 8, so the source of this error is unclear, but I assume this counted just children of living children (perhaps they asked at the church, and how many children do these four children leave?) and maybe Frieda was overlooked.

**Alma Bischoff Hay's diary listed the deaths of twins Augusta Bechthold Baker and Antonia Bechthold Miller. Obviously, the families kept in touch through the 1940s.

Cemetery abbreviations: ph=Prospect Hill; mo=Mount Olivet; fp=Fresh Pond Crematory at Mt. Olivet; rc=Rock Creek; nyb=Bayview/New York Bay (in NJ); w=Woodlawn; lh=Linden Hill; gh=Gate of Heaven (Hawthorne, Westchester Co, NY)

Anna Martha Damm emigrated at age 13 from Hesse with her parents (Conrad and A. Martha) and three younger brothers (Frank, Richard and John) arriving June 9, 1856 on the SS Betty; her two older brothers, tailors Conrad and Christian, had emigrated three years earlier arriving November 21, 1853 on the SS Elise. In 1860, Anna's family lived in 17th ward of District #9 in NYC; in 1870 they lived in Morisania in Westchester County NY (near to Hermann and Anna). Brother Conrad moved to Manhattan by 1880.

Eliza Henning Stiebeling (Roos) cannot be found in 1880 or 1900 -- and none of her four children in 1880 or her two daughters in 1900. This is especially odd in 1900 since she lists herself as Eliza Stiebeling in the NY Manhattan directory at 36 Charles St in both 1898/99 and in 1899/1900, but she is no longer living at 36 Charles St on the June 1900 census.

Edward's daughter Emma Stiebeling is likely born circa 12/1870-1/1871 -- given that Elizabeth was born 11/20/1969 and Edward born 1/31/1872, the window of possible birth months for Emma are 8/1870-4/1871.

Sophia's children Edwin and Lottie (Charlotte) are buried in the same grave in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Washington, DC, which is curious since Lottie was married. Just four months after Sophia's untimely suicide (10 Feb 1891), with the children just 1.5 and 5, Philip remarries: Philip Stiebeling and Mary E. Rabe Donnelly Lewis married on 9 June 1891; Mary had one daughter Helen Marie Donnelly, age 14. Mary Rabe was born in May 1855 in Philadelphia; died 17 July 1938 at 106 3rd St, NW, Washington, DC. Her first husband was Bernard Donnelly. Helen Marie Donnelly was born 14 August 1876, married James Martin McAnally circa 1903, had four children (James E., Mildred Elizabeth, Thomas DeWitt and Francis DeS) and died 23 June 1913. Mary's second husband is Unknown Lewis.
