Mary Emily Howsmon Hay obituary
Mary Emily Howsmon Hay died less than three months after her husband, on January 25th, 1931 after a several month illness. In her daughter Fannie's diary, it says on January 2nd 1931: "Mamma has been ill since Thanksgiving. There has been severe pain in the sacro-iliac joint so that lying down was impossible for nearly three weeks. This was followed by pleurisy. She came downstairs to Christmas dinner and to spend the evening with the family, but until the present day she has not otherwise been down stairs."
Mary Emily was 81 not 82, and she was not a native of New York -- they had lived in New York 1900-1907 just prior to moving back to Washington, DC.
